Characterisation of the Little Lagoon in Durban Bay

This is a long term study commissioned by the National Ports Authority (formerly Portnet) to characterise and assess the planktonic, benthic and fish communities in the little lagoon area of Durban Bay. (project initiated Jan 2001 – due for completion Dec 2003)

A further investigation into the effects of Thukela River flow on the Thukela Bank shallow water prawn resource

DWAF are funding a further investigation into the potential impacts of dam construction on the prawn fishery currently operating on the Thukela Banks Kwazulu Natal. (project to be initiated May 2002 – due for completion December 2002).

Water quality and biomonitoring of the rivers in the Richards Bay, Empangeni and Mtunzini area.

TICOR have contracted MER to investigate the impact of TICOR activities on a number of streams and water bodies in the Richards Bay, Empangeni and Mtunzini areas. The project aims to quantify the water quality and ecological health of these systems (project to be initiated April 2002 – due for completion March 2003).
